What is the SynCh?
The SynCh Universal Sync Charger, and its cousin the kwikSynCh, are an innovative solution to the common problem of keeping cellphones, MP3 players, cameras, PDAs and other portable electronics powered up, synched and ready to go. Setting a new standard for charging and synching handheld electronics, the SynCh and kwikSynCh are universal, multi-functional and extremely portable.
My devices already come with adapters. Why should I buy the SynCh / kwikSynCh?
The SynCh / kwikSynCh are unlike any other charger you've seen before. One SynCh / kwikSynCh can support literally thousands of different products, plus charge and sync multiple devices from one plug. With the amazingly versatile SynCh / kwikSynCh, you can:
  • Charge a cellphone and a headset from a single car outlet
  • Sync an iPod and charge a cellphone from your laptop's USB port
  • Keep your child's PSP charged on family road trips
  • Unclog wall outlets and power strips
  • Stop lugging around extra adapters when you travel for work or pleasure
  • Say goodbye to cable clutter!
The SynCh / kwikSynCh allow you to consolidate your charging activity in one easily accessible location. Keep the adapter that came with your device and use it as a paperweight. And pick up a SynCh / kwikSynCh to make your life just a little bit easier.
What about other universal adapters I've seen advertised?
The SynCh and kwikSynCh are the smallest, lightest and most versatile products in their class, period. And unlike other 'universal' adapters, the same SynCh / kwikSynCh can charge from the wall, the car and USB, allowing you to use it wherever you go, and not have to carry extra units. For people who crave mobility, USB charging makes perfect sense — and dual charging makes twice as much sense.
Which charger should I purchase?
The kwikSynCh is ideal for connecting to a laptop. For greater extension, such as plugging into a car, wall or desktop PC, the retractable SynCh is the appropriate choice.
What are mTips?
mTips are the bridge between the SynCh / kwikSynCh, and your devices. mTips provide power and data connectivity for cellphones, headsets, PDAs, music players, cameras and a host of other personal electronics, and they are the key to your never having to buy another charger again. We make over 50 different mTips, covering all the leading brands of mobile electronics. Next time you get a new phone or other device, instead of buying a new charger, just pop on the correct mTip.
What are the different styles of mTips?
There are two styles of mTips: USB and Charge. USB mTips plug onto either connector on the kwikSynCh, or onto the USB connector on the SynCh. Charge mTips plug onto the charge connector on the SynCh.
What are the different functions of mTips?
USB style mTips may be used for charging, data synching or both, depending on the device. Charge mTips are solely for power. The type of functionality provided by each mTip--Power Only, Data Only or Power + Data--is listed when you search for the correct mTip for your devices.
Can I use the same mTip for more than one type of device?
Yes. Several mTips are used by multiple brands or devices. For example, our USB Mini mTip is used by cellphones, MP3 players, cameras and more. We encourage our customers to share similar mTips across their devices wherever possible, which is a great way to save more money.
I searched for my device, but don't see it listed. Can you help?
Due to the frequency of new product introductions, some newer models of cellphones and other devices may not yet be listed. Please direct questions about product compatibility to support@mdiglobal.com.
Do the SynCh and kwikSynCh work internationally?
Yes. You can use our Interchangeable USB Wall Adapter, which includes several different plugs for different outlets. The circuitry in the adapter adjusts automatically to international electrical systems. And of course if you travel with a laptop, you can connect your SynCh / kwikSynCh to the USB port on your laptop at any time.
Can I plug USB accessories into the SynCh or kwikSynCh?
Yes. You may plug any USB accessory, such as flash drives, wireless modems, data adapters and much more, into the SynCh / kwikSynCh. Please note that for data functionality, USB accessories must be connected to the data port on the SynCh / kwikSynCh.
Will charging from my laptop affect my laptop's battery?
Slightly. Our testing has shown that even with two devices plugged in, laptop battery cycle life is lowered by less than 5 percent on average. The types of portable electronics supported by the SynCh / kwikSynCh consume minimal power to recharge — less than the power required to run an external hard drive for example. And of course if your laptop is plugged into a power source, such as a wall outlet, then its battery will be unaffected by the SynCh / kwikSynCh.
Can I charge a laptop with the SynCh or kwikSynCh?
No. The SynCh and kwikSynCh are designed to charge portable electronics devices operating at 9V or less.
How do I tell if my SynCh / kwikSynCh is working?
To check that your devices are properly connected, as with other chargers, look or listen for an indication on your phone or device, such as a beep, light or flashing battery icon. Occasionally you may have to jiggle the mTip to ensure that it seats fully in your device. Our Car and Wall adapters have LEDs that indicate when they are plugged into the power source.
Will connecting two devices affect the charging time?
This may have a modest effect on the total charging time, depending on which devices are connected and how drained their batteries are.
Are your products safe?
Yes. The SynCh, kwikSynCh, adapters and all of our mTips have been thoroughly tested. They use technology developed by MDI to ensure that the correct power is delivered safely and efficiently to your device. Our products meet all applicable UL and cUL specifications. As with any adapter, always remember to plug your SynCh / kwikSynCh into the power source first before connecting your devices.
When I connect my iPod and cellphone at the same time to my iBook, neither charges. What's going on?
Some laptops have a lower limit on the amount of current available through the USB port. Connecting two devices at the same time may cause the laptop's USB circuit breaker to trip, especially if the batteries on both devices are fully drained. If this happens, unplug one device and let the other one recharge for a while before connecting the second device.
I left my phone plugged in for several hours, and it still isn't charged. Is something wrong?
Some cellphones may require our 6V or 9V voltage boosters. In particular we have found this to be the case with certain models from Nokia and Siemens. If you find you have a problem charging your device, please contact us.
I connected my cellphone and it said "Charging Completed" after a few seconds, but the battery is still drained. What's going on?
On a few cellphone models, the software on the phone is looking for an indicator signal that the SynCh and kwikSynCh do not replicate. This has no effect on the charging performance of your SynCh / kwikSynCh. Simply leave your phone plugged into your SynCh / kwikSynCh for an appropriate length of time, such as 2-3 hours, and it should be fully charged. Note that on some phones, the battery icon will flash while charging, even as the screen says "Charging Completed." This is normal, and indicates that your SynCh / kwikSynCh is working properly.
Why does the SynCh use ZIP-LINQ™ retractable cables?
MDI has expressly chosen ZIP-LINQ retractable cables for their product excellence, ease of use and long life. By integrating high quality ZIP-LINQ retractable cable technology, MDI is able to deliver the most compact, lightweight and aesthetically pleasing product of its kind available anywhere. ZIP-LINQ's patented Pull-n-Click technology allows the SynCh to extend up to three and a half feet and then, with a simple tug, zip up to mere inches. No mess, no fuss. Toss your SynCh in your bag and off you go.
Always remember to pull the cable on your SynCh from both ends (one hand on the case and the other hand on the USB connector). For more information on ZIP-LINQ retractable cables, please visit www.ziplinq.com.
When I retract my SynCh, there is extra cable on one side. How do I fix this?
To re-center your SynCh, do the following:
1) Extend the cable all the way
2) Gently pull the cable on the excess side through the retractor
3) Retract the cable
4) Repeat if necessary
This should re-center the retractor. Be careful when pulling the cable through the retractor, so that the cable doesn't stretch or break. Note that when re-centered, there should be a little bit of slack on the USB input plug side.
